Political Comeback: Sol Erwin Diaz Rejoins Palao Council

 ILIGAN CITY — Mayor Frederick Siao has officially appointed Sol Erwin G. Diaz as the new barangay kagawad of Barangay Palao, Iligan City, following a vacancy caused by the death of a sitting barangay council member due to illness.

The appointment was made on April 14, 2026, pursuant to Resolution No. 090, Series of 2026 issued by the Barangay Palao Council, which recommended three qualified constituents for consideration. Mayor Siao selected Diaz from the nominees to fill the vacant post.

The appointment is in accordance with Republic Act No. 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1991, which provides that vacancies in the barangay council arising from death or permanent disability shall be filled through appointment by the city or municipal mayor upon recommendation through a barangay resolution.

Diaz is set to serve until 30 days after the assumption of office of newly elected barangay officials following the scheduled Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on November 2, 2026.

The appointment marks Diaz’s return to the Barangay Palao Council, where he previously served as kagawad from 2007 to 2018. In the 2023 barangay elections, Diaz ran for barangay captain but lost to incumbent Barangay Captain Romeo Manzano. Despite their past electoral contest, Manzano reportedly supported Diaz’s inclusion among the nominees considered for the vacancy.

Observers view the appointment as a development emphasizing continuity in local governance and political reconciliation within Barangay Palao.

Atong nasayran nga kaniadto pa nag suporta si Kagawad Sol Erwin Diaz sa maong activity tungod kay usa man siya ka kanhiay nga magtutudlo ug iya gayud nga bation ang kahinangop sa pagtabang sa mga skwelahan. Gani nagahatag si Kagawad Sol og mga notebooks og mga lapis ngadto sa mga studyante sa miaging tuig. Sa pagkakaron si Kagawad munaog na pagka kagawad tungod kay katapusan na man niya nga termino isip kagawad sa barangay. Mupahulay si kagawad Sol sa pipila ka tuig og atong damhon nga mudagan siya pag usab sa sunod nga Election sa Barangay.

Sol Diaz feeds Arroz Caldo to Constituents

          Purok 10 of Barangay Palao, Iligan City received a feeding of arroz caldo from Kagawad Sol Erwin Diaz today at around 9:00 o'clock in the morning. The recipients were so happy of the feeding program initiated by Kag. Sol Erwin Diaz. They said that the feeding was so helpful to them as it was given by Kagawad Diaz for free. The feeding was assisted by several persons together with Miguelito "Boboy" Patero, who regularly attended such humanitarian event and Alvin Galorio, a previous kagawad who is also living within the area of Purok 10. Other people who supported kagawad Diaz with this endeavor are: Aling Yamaro, Cocoy Quilantang, Rodrigo Rodriguez, and Engr. Rolando Castro. Kag. Diaz is still hoping to get some sponsors so that he still can organize a feeding program in the future.

Sol Diaz initiates Arroz Caldo Feeding

Kagawad Sol Erwin Diaz initiated a feeding program to some constituents of Barangay Palao, Iligan City Last July 10, 2016. It started at around 9:00 o'clock in the morning together with some volunteers from different groups. The persons who assisted Kag. Sol Diaz were Engr. Rolando Castro, the purok president of purok 3; Mr. Rodrigo Rodriguez, the PAMET president; Mr. Miguelito Patero, the purok president of purok 1; and youth volunteers headed by Rio Fernandez. The said feeding program was just only a start of series of feeding program around different puroks in Palao. Last Sunday, they started to feed around 180 persons, including children, in Purok 7, Purok 19, and Purok 18. The group plans not only to conduct series of feeding program but also some other public service programs like free haircut and free medical clinic soon.

Samahang Magdalo Relief Operations in Iligan

Dili gyud hikalimtan sa mga Iliganon ang pagpahigayun og usa ka relief operations sa Samahang Magdalo Iligan City Chapter niadtong nahitabo ang usa ka kusog nga bagyo niadtong tuig 2011. Base sa usa ka interview sa mga Magdalo Members daghan pa gayud ang naka timaan sa dihang naghatag ug bugas, nilata, ug noodles ang Samahang Magdalo didto gayud mismo sa dapit diin daghan ang nabiktima sa Bagyon Sendong. Halos mag lima na ka tuig ang milabay, ang mga nakadawat sa maong hinabang natiman-an pa gayud ang pagpanghatag sa bugas, tinapa, ug noodles. Atong nasayran nga ang maong relief operations gipangulohan gayud kini sa chapter president nga si Sol Erwin Diaz kauban ang mga membro niini ug sila gayud ang nangunay sa pagpanghatag sa hinabang ngadto sa mga biktima.
